ACTIVITIES:
While enjoying your stay at Savannah Resort Hotel, there are a various activities that you may engage in to make your stay at the Hotel more memorable, they include:
Besides the traditional 'Big Five' and typical Ugandan game, the
Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth has two species that are not
available anywhere else in Uganda; the most widely known are the
tree-climbing lions, a unique marvel, but the lesser known Topi Kob is
unique to Ishasha sector and beautiful to behold in its own right. An
added bonus is that this area is not over-commercialised and is off
the beaten track, affording one the serenity and privacy normally
reserved for those who can afford the 5-star private game reserves in
say Namibia and South Africa.
The lucky few who have tracked the mountain gorillas have been
poignantly moved and the scepter of their endangered status only makes
this more special as one realizes how close the world came to losing
them entirely! Without exception, the guests at our hotel who planned
and saved for months and travelled half way across the world to see
the gorillas said they would gladly do it again! (Requires prior
purchase of gorilla permits from UWA Kampala)
Whether in our extensive gardens and orchards or at the national
parks, walking takes on a whole new meaning. Bwindi has several long
and short walks to suit all ages and abilities and varieties of tree,
bird, flower and butterfly species as well as waterfalls, streams and
riverine gorges. Queen Elizabeth has a nature walk with unforgettable
up-close views of savannah animals and birds and a riverside trail
past the hippo pool on the Ishasha River banks. A stroll through our
garden and our surrounding countryside is a great way to unwind,
appreciate nature, bird-watch, see the local children at play or at
the well or herding goats and see food-crops in the community gardens.
Our hotel is host to over 60 species of birds and the parks: Queen
Elizabeth and Bwindi Impenetrable are home to hundreds more! Kazinga
Channel is excellent for bird watching too!
A regular boat cruise is ran by UWA (Uganda Wildlife Authority) but
there are canoeing and private boat charters available too. Booking is
through a central UWA office but the hotel reception will phone in a
booking for guests on request. The cruise itself is a memorable trip
down the Kazinga Channel with amazing flora and fauna on view
(everything from elephants and buffalos to egrets,shoe-bills and
fish-eagles with monitor-lizards and crocodiles in between) and a
picnic hamper and cool box of drinks can be provided on request.Be
warned however that with the sheer excitement and abundance of sights
and sounds even the most seasoned tourist will be too distracted with
juggling binoculars and cameras and craning necks left, right and
centre to eat or drink much :)
Note: Kazinga channel is 96km/2hrs drive from the hotel and should be
planned as a half-day excursion (packed lunch and drinks are available
on request).
Reading and Relaxation:
Beautiful wrought-iron and wooden benches
are scattered in strategic scenic and tree-shaded spots for the
outdoor reader or relaxer, as well as umbrellas shading the garden
seats and tables. Mats are available on request.
Watching television: The Satellite TV bouquet in our lounge includes
popular movies, nature channels, news and current affairs (limited
selection of French, Italian, Portuguese and German news and current
affairs channels), comedy, style and fashion, music, gospel and
african programming.
